On June 29, the Corporate Governance Center organised its annual conference titled “Contemporary Trends in Corporate Governance and Their Implications for Armenia.”
The event was held as part of the “Responding to Threats of Corrosive Capital in Armenia. Phase III” project, funded by the UK International Development from the UK government and implemented with the support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE).
The Conference was opened by H.E. Ms Alexandra Cole, His Majesty’s Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia, who emphasised the critical role of corporate governance in ensuring the resilience and competitiveness of the business environment.
The Conference featured discussions on a number of timely corporate governance issues, including the prospects for introducing investment screening frameworks in Armenia, progress in the implementation of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, the development of a culture of business integrity and compliance, and the evolving role of company boards in the context of emerging technologies. Particular attention was given to the specifics of corporate governance in state-owned enterprises and the role of business associations.
Among the highlights of the Conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the RA Ministry of Finance, the RA Corruption Prevention Commission, the RA State Property Management Committee, and the Corporate Governance Center. The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation among the parties aimed at the continuous improvement of corporate governance practices in state-owned enterprises.
The Conference brought together representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society organisations, international partners (including CIPE and the OECD), and local experts to discuss global trends, exchange experiences, and explore new approaches to improving corporate governance in Armenia.
The discussions highlighted that strong corporate governance plays a vital role in fostering a trustworthy and competitive investment environment and promoting economic development. The outcomes of the Conference provide a basis for advancing consistent reforms in the field.
The Corporate Governance Center expresses its profound gratitude to the UK Government, CIPE, as well as to Aramayis Pashinyan, Ardita Seknaj, Artak Manukyan, Ashot Ulikhanyan, Davit Mkrtumyan, Dimitri Chichlo, Edgar Mkrtchyan, Fianna Jurdant, Gor Khachatryan, Haykuhi Harutyunyan, Lia Hayrapetyan, Luiza Ayvazyan, Narine Melikyan, Oleg Lagodiyenko, Oleksandra Onysko, Stephen Rosenlund, Tigran Jrbashyan, and Yeghishe Kirakosyan for their valuable professional contribution.
