Is the transition to “stakeholder capitalism” in the Armenian business environment possible?

Corporate Governance Center hosted an open meeting of the Business Integrity Club on August 13. The meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the results of the “Is the transition to “stakeholder capitalism” in the Armenian business environment possible?” expert survey conducted by the Center.

The survey was conducted in February-March, 2021, with the involvement of 50 experts. The aim of the research was to:

  • discover the perception of the essence of “stakeholder capitalism” in Armenia,
  • consider the possibilities of transition to “stakeholder capitalism” in the Armenian business environment and the factors affecting it,
  • find out the main ways of transition to “stakeholder capitalism” in the Armenian business environment.

According to the results of the survey, the answer to the question raised in the title is positive, as 88% of the experts highlighted the need for that transition, and 38% considered it realistic for the next three years. However, in order to achieve tangible and visible results, this transition will require companies not only to rethink their own corporate governance system, but also to change the world perceptions of top management of companies.

The details of the survey results can be found here.

The survey and presentation of its results was organized by the Corporate Governance Center within the “Armenia. Empowering the Private Sector to Support Democratic Transition” project implemented with the support of Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE, www.cipe.org).
