On July 29, 2022, the Corporate Governance Center organized a masterclass on “Role of the Board of Directors in Tax Compliance” within the framework of the Business Integrity Club, which was held by Aharon Chilingaryan, a partner of BDO Armenia, head of tax and legal.
In order to clarify the essence of the topic chosen for the masterclass, the speaker at the beginning of his speech detailed taxes, main functions of companies and the new tax effects of state structures on the corporate world.
Tax compliance issues were considered by the speaker in the light of world globalization and a number of international principles and targets (UN Principles for Responsible Investment, UN Sustainable Development Goals, etc.) resulting from the latter.
Referring to the advocates of adopting a tax strategy by companies, the speaker highlighted the role of corporate boards as a front runner of tax compliance behaviour in companies.
At the end of his speech, the speaker presented to the participants a typical example of the Tax Policy content, detailing the essence of each of its components.
At the end of the event, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Corporate Governance Center, Aharon Chilingaryan was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his support to the Center’s activities, as well as for his contribution to the development of the corporate governance environment in Armenia.
The event participants expressed their high satisfaction, and as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Corporate Governance Center Tigran Karapetyan mentioned in his welcome speech, ‘it was really a masterclass from a master’.
The masterclass was organized by the Corporate Governance Center within the “EURASIA: CREATING ENABLING ENVIRONMENTS FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CAPITAL, PHASE II” project of the Center for International Private Enterprise.
